The bathtub prop first started out as a 3D model that I created in Maya.

Some of the parts I knew I was going to 3D print such as the shower head, faucet knobs, shower assembly base, and the claw feet of the bathtub. To help cut costs I created the basin of the bathtub using card stock, paper maché, and plaster.

The 3D model of the basin was then imported into Pepakura Designer. Pepakura Designer breaks apart 3D models into individual parts that can be cut out of paper and reassembled into a physical 3D paper model.

The paper pieces are then sent to a CriCut cutting machine to quickly and accurately cut all of the pieces for the model.

I pieced together two basins out of heavy card stock.

I then glued the two models together to create a very rigid basin.

I applied paper maché onto the tub. After that paper maché dried, I smoothed out any imperfections with a generous amount of drywall plaster.

After some final sanding and a coat of primer, the model is ready for final paint.

The 3D models for the claw feet are 3D printed using an SLA printer.

The shower assembly parts are also 3D printed with the exception of the pipes. I used 3/8” aluminum armature wire for the pipes.
